Why do you ride?
Originally I started running because I was fat and out of shape. I ran for several years, but it began to get boring. I purchased my first bike (Trek 1000) in hopes of doing some triathlons. I did a few tri’s and really liked them, but also began to realize I was a better biker than runner or swimmer. I focused on bike races 2 years ago and absolutely love it.
What is your best cycling memory?
This years Iceman was pretty memorable. I had competed in the pro class and had a good finish. The crowd at Williamsburg Road and at the end of the race was incredible. People were yelling my name and making me feel like a rock star. When I got done I was surrounded by friends and family and they were all talking about how well I did. The race was ridiculously hard and it felt good to have people appreciate and notice the hard work I had put into finishing.
What is your most embarrassing cycling story?
Being a middle school teacher and riding my bike to work, it is embarrassing every time the students see me in my kit (spandex). It doesn’t matter how many times they see me, they always get a kick out of seeing me with my gear on. They even noticed, one of the few times I wore shorts, that I shave my legs. Try explaining that to a bunch of teenagers!
